Reimagine the lobby of a dated multi-tenant office building to create a bold sense of arrival that speaks to future tenants and sets the tone for the next generation of the Drake Oak Brook.

The broad, light-filled lobby remained largely unchanged since its construction 30 years ago. Outdated stone, poor lighting, and worn finishes, combined with a general lack of excitement, left tenants, guests, and prospects feeling lackluster about the building and its brand. EWP Architects was asked to address these significant hurdles and deliver a major update with an advanced vision for the future.

EWP Architects utilized modern materials to create a dramatic, timeless floor overlaying the existing stone lobby. This elevated the first impression while providing a financially viable solution. We reimagined the ceilings, lighting, and finishes to bring the space current with modern office buildings. The outdated interior storefront was replaced with custom millwork “wedge” walls, resulting in a dynamic transition in lieu of a traditional walled-off corridor. To enhance functionality and flow, the team removed an old phone and mail center, allowing for the relocation of seating areas—making them more useful to tenants, better connecting them to the landscaped courtyard, and filling the space with natural light. Finally, the outdated security desk was replaced with a sleek, modern reception area, that quickly became the focal point of the arrival sequence, leaving an immediate impression upon entry.
